Newham College – Kitchen Training Rooms

Brief

Benison Associates were requested to provide scheme proposals to and design and project manage an existing college classroom to provide a practical modern, hygienic and adaptable kitchen food preparation and teaching area. In addition the brief included the replacement of an existing dumb waiter within the corridor, and sliding folding doors to separate the existing classroom as and when required.

Project Value – Approximately £40,000.00

Design Specification

Altro White Rock sheeting to walls, Altro Safety Flooring to floors, a bioguard hygienic suspended ceiling, laminated folding/sliding doors and sensor controlled lighting. In addition a new wall mounted air conditioning system, a dumb waiter and stainless steel kitchen equipment were installed, forming part of our overall instruction.

Building Regulations Approval was achieved via a Plans Approval route and an Approved Building Control Inspector.

Procurement Route

Due to the general simplicity of the project a traditional procurement route was agreed with the client. The works were tendered to three contractors and delivered under a standard JCT Minor Building Works Contract with Contractors; the contractors design aspect being the Mechanical and Electrical.

General

A contractor was appointed and the proposed works were commenced and completed within budget and to the client’s satisfaction over a 6 contract duration period.
